In the Ayurvedic consultation you will receive an introduction that explains what Ayurveda is, how it works, and how it can help you. Then we will interview you to find out your main reasons for coming to see us. We will also use some diagnostic techniques used in Ayurveda such as Nadi Pariksha (analysis of the pulse at different depths), Jivha Pariksha (analysis of the tongue), Akruti Pariksha (analysis of the face), Drig Pariksha (analysis of the eyes), Nakha Pariksha (analysis of the nails), Akruti Pariksha (analysis of the posture and general appearance), and other holistic techniques. These will help us determine your Prakruti which is your original constitution based on the Doshas (energetic patterns of the body) and your Vikruti which is the current state of your Doshas.
Based on the information obtained, we will provide specific recommendations from the Ayurvedic approach that will help you to maintain or recover the balance and equilibrium necessary for good health. These recommendations may include dietary therapy, herbal medicine, specific meditations, yoga asanas (specific postures), pranayamas (breathing exercises and techniques), marma point therapy, therapeutic massage, and lifestyle recommendations based on your diagnosis.
In the Ayurvedic herbal consultation you will get an herbal recommendation based on the Ayurvedic approach and your current needs to regain harmony in your health. Ayurvedic herbs and medicinal plants have enormous preventative and curative potential and if properly used can help you regain health, either on their own or as part of a more comprehensive Ayurvedic treatment. At Sattva Ayurveda, we only recommend herbs or medicinal plants of recognized and reliable brands to ensure optimal results. Our herbal recommendations will be based on your needs and symptoms. We will also schedule a timely follow-up so that together we can achieve the health goals that brought you to our clinic.
In the Ayurvedic dietary consultation we will review your current diet, eating habits, dietary needs, goals, physical activities, occupation, age, and other factors. Then we will recommend the best Ayurvedic diet, completely personalized, which will help you achieve your goals to maintain or improve your health. This Ayurvedic diet will recommend what kinds of food to eat, how to combine food, what amount of each food to eat, and when the best time is to eat them, according to your Dosha predominant constitution, the time of day, the season, your daily activities, and your goals. Ayurvedic nutrition can help you improve your energy levels, decrease stress, improve your digestion, help you lose weight, and regain or prolong your health. We will also schedule a timely follow-up so that we can support you and work with you to help you achieve your goals of healthier eating.
Snehana is a type of Ayurvedic massage in which different types of natural oils are used to help in the process of healing or the prevention of disease. Some of the benefits of this massage include helping to balance the doshas, relaxing the mind to reduce stress, stimulating circulation, improving the elasticity of the skin and muscles, improving the flow of vital energy throughout the body (Prana), draining the lymphatic system to reduce disease, rejuvenating the body, and helping to increase longevity. In Ayurveda, Snehana massage is used to balance all of the Doshas in the body, but primarily the Vata dosha that is related to emotional symptoms such as anxiety and stress, as well as stiffness in the body, muscle aches, headaches, cramps, spasms, and other similar issues. Snehana massage is typically one hour in duration and we use only natural oils.
Marma points are specific points located throughout the entire body. These points are points where the flow of energy from the body (Prana) can be activated, stimulated and directed, producing benefits for the entire body. These points are chosen in a personalized way according to the needs of each person. Once the points are selected, they are stimulated by various techniques such as massage with specific oils based on the diagnosis, application of heat, or specific manipulation, meditation, and breathing techniques that will activate the point, allowing the flow of prana to resume its natural movement to produce a healing effect. Marma point therapy can be a complete therapy by itself or as an excellent complement as a part of a complete Ayurvedic treatment. It is very useful to treat different ailments such as stress, anxiety, headaches, migraines, muscle aches, sciatica, allergies, sinus problems, digestion problems, insomnia, fatigue, and many other issues. Since Marma point therapy stimulates the correct flow of vital energy in the body (Prana) it can help to maintain good health and increase longevity.
Marmapuncture is a technique based on Marma points, or vital energy points, throughout the body. During the Marmapuncture consultation we will determine the Marma points that will achieve optimal results towards restoring health. Then you will be referred within our clinic to our Licensed Acupuncturist who specializes in Marma Therapy to provide your Marmapuncture treatment.
During the Marmapuncture treatment, you’ll lie on a warm, comfortable massage table. Your acupuncturist will insert the needles and you’ll be allowed to rest for 20 minutes, after which the needles are removed. The needles are very thin and about the size of a hair. We only use disposable, sterile, stainless steel needles. You’ll be surprised how painless Marmapuncture is. When the needle is inserted you might not feel anything or sometimes it feels a little like a mosquito bite. Most people feel relaxed and rejuvenated after a treatment.
Yoga and Ayurveda are closely related. In Ayurveda, specific therapeutic yoga postures are used to help improve health, prevent diseases, and reinforce treatments such as herbal or dietary therapy. The Yoga Therapy consultation designs a series of postures and stretching recommendations to create a personalized exercise plan for you to do at home. A follow-up is given to evaluate your progress and to make the necessary revisions to the asanas to adapt them to your current needs. A group class of Therapeutic Yoga is also available for clients.
In the meditation and learning group of Ayurveda you will learn and practice meditation techniques, relaxation, Ayurvedic breathing, and postures (asanas), which are very useful to learn to relax the mind, decrease anxiety, breathe better, and in general gain greater awareness about your health. The group also reviews and studies general topics about Ayurveda and Vedic philosophy. In each class you will learn something new, interesting, useful, and beneficial for your daily life based on the Ayurvedic approach to health and Vedic philosophy that gives us an ocean of wisdom to live a life with greater awareness and harmony. This is an excellent option to learn to meditate, relax, breathe better, and maintain a positive energy and consciousness, while also learning more about Ayurveda and Vedic philosophy. This group is open to the public and it is not necessary to have had an interview or Ayurvedic consultation with us to integrate. If you have had your Ayurvedic consultation with us previously this group is an excellent option to learn more, reinforce what you learned, and rely on the group to remain constant in the process of positive change and achieving their goals. We invite you to join us. Everyone is welcome.
Ayurveda has its own Astrology system called Jyotish or Vedic Astrology. Vedic Astrology has been used in Ayurveda since ancient times for therapeutic purposes and spiritual growth. It allows and helps the person to get to know themselves better and to clarify aspects of their personality. It also helps people to understand their position and mission on this planet. In the consultation of Vedic Astrology, the natal chart is obtained using techniques specific to this Astrology system, which are different from those of western astrology. Based on the exact date and time of birth, it can determine the positions held by the different planets at the moment of birth, and give a reading on the influence of the stars in the life of that person, their tendencies, and a very clear idea of what is and what is not favorable to that person. Information is also obtained about Karma (past actions that can affect the present) and Dharma (the vocation or mission of the person). All this information allows the Astrologist to offer very complete counseling and advice on what the person should promote and pursue and what they should not, based on what is favorable or unfavorable for their specific nature. The Vedic Astrology consultation has a spiritual focus of inner growth and will help people with a sincere desire to know themselves better and to improve many aspects of their lives.
